Choosing My Final Poster

After making my original poster, I decided to slightly alter the image. my intentions were to make it look as if the image had been painted to recreate the effect of the "Dam Busters" poster that I analyzed as well as many other film posters at the time.

I wasn't really sure about the effect so i decided to do a survey asking people which one they preferred. the end result was the one n the right. for this reason this is my final poster

Making my Magazine

When making my poster I was inspired by the layout of the independent magazine "Little White Lies" which I have done an analysis of. I liked the quite simplistic design of the magazine, and the neutral colours used in the colour scheme, as well as the way they made the images striking in order to stand out more.

So when creating my magazine review, the first thing I did was select the image that i wanted to use and cropped it, and then changed it to the scale I wanted. I purposely chose to crop it as a square.

After arranging the picture properly on the page, I then began to add text boxes; adding in the title of the film, who directed it, who was starring in it and the release date.

Update on Filming

On Tuesday we set the day aside to get all filming done, unfortunately there was a pheasant shoot through the woods, meaning we had to cut the day short. However we did manage to get half of the filming we intended to get done that day.

Making My Poster

When creating my poster i used the program Photoshop to produce my poster. As well as following the codes and conventions of film posters, especially of the genre of war, based on my research. First of all I opened my chosen photograph with the program, Photoshop.

After opening my image, the fist thing i did was slightly crop into it, to make our actor more central. I then changed the brightness, tone and contrast to create a darker feel to the image, something i had noticed many war posters did. Once i had done these thing and was happy with how the image looked I went on to a font website called "dafont.com"to download the font that i wanted to use on my poster.

Now i had the picture the way i like it and the right font, all i needed to do then was just write the; Title, leading actors and fine print. After doing this my first draft for my poster was complete.

Update on Filming

Since the change of location due to reasons stated in previous posts, all filming was going extremely well and we were making very good progress. We managed to get to our location early with our actors for a full day of filming. We were filming one scene in a WW2 bunker and noticed that the battery was running low and knew that we would have to speed up in order to film everything that we needed for that day, however the SD card also became full of memory and after deleting what we could there was still not enough space to carrying filming. this and the lack of power for the camera resulted in us cutting the day short.

since then we have learnt from our mistakes and next time we shall take multiple SD cards in order to film every thing that is need as well as double checking that the battery is fully charged before setting of to film.

Change of location

We have had to change our location since the previous post about location scouting, due to unease of being able to carry our equipment to our desired location as the gate to the entrance of the field was locked, for this reason we have changed location to a nearby village, although we have to drive there it is much more accessible in terms of carrying equipment and props etc.

This location still equally represents all of what we are looking for. for example the woods and open fields representing being stranded, isolation and loneliness.

Filming Problems

We set out on Tuesday morning to begin filming, however we encountered many problems with the weather. Especially the wind which drastically effected the quality of the audio of all the footage we captured in the day. The audio will disrupt the continuity when it comes to editing and will not look professional. 

The location was also very far away further away, meaning that we had to carry a lot of equipment which then meant it took a long time to set up and eating into time which could have been spent filming.

Typograhpy

When choosing what font to use for my poster i wanted to pick the one that most of my target audience preferred. so i chose these five, of which i personally like and asked 10 people witch one was there favorite.

there were more votes for "Bronx Bystreets"(the third font down) and this is why I have chosen this font for my poster.
